HOW THE LEAGUE WAS STARTED
The Eastern Valley Dart League was formed in 1969.
Prior to that there were many friendly teams that played but to enter competitions we had to go to Newport where there were leagues.
The teams came from Pontnewydd Cwmbran, Penynheal, Pontypool right the way through to Blaenavon.
After several years the teams South of Sebastapol left to form their own league-this was due to the amount of travel involved, and it was more convenient for them to localise.
There was so much interest in 1969 after Maureen and I won the Monmouthshire and Welsh Ladies Pairs title, we lost in the final of the National Pairs of Great Britain, which took place in Coventry - it was a wonderful day, even though we came second.
Ossie Turner who was the local News of the World Darts representative, Maureen Roberts, Myself and two other landladies had a meeting ; put out feelers about the league and the response was amazing.
Here we are 42 years later still going strong.
Well done everyone.
